This weeks reading log concerning slavery in Canada really stuck with me. This assignment brought to attention how slavery was in fact a reality in our Canadian history. The personal stories of slaves really conveyed the hardships slaves experience and what their lives truly looked like. This an aspect of Canadian history that is rather swept under the rug and is not discussed. You would assume that such an topic would be discussed in the secondary education system but for some reason it’s exempt. This assignment educated me in order to avoid generalizing Canadian history within the extent of the knowledge that I already had. I had no idea that slavery went on in the Canadian past. This knowledge along with all the other events that I learnt about throughout this semester has undoubtedly changed my opinion and interpretation of Canadian history.
