In the majority of early historical documents concerning the First Nations people of Canada described them unintelligent savages. I was not aware of the intricacies that were a reality when Europeans came to Canada. In particular, when Christian missions came to Canada they did not succeed with their goal of converting all First Nations peoples. The Aboriginal people of Canada were open to this idea of converting and merely found reasonable ways within the christian religion to argue as to why they should not convert to Christianity. Their main reason as to why they should not convert was that a large number of their population passed away from disease that the Europeans brought over. To quote James P. Ronda, why would the First Nations people of Canada give themselves up to him when he massacres us. Clearly the Aboriginal people of Canada were capable of logical thought and this is why we have to be aware of who is writing the history when we are interpreting it.
