At the beginning of the semester I defined childhood as the primary experience of learning in the socialization process that occurs throughout ones life. As for education, I defined it as the social institution that is set in place to funnel those in society into specific careers and place in society with an obvious focus on learning and abiding by rules. Now at the end of the semester, I still maintain my definitions but I have a much broader view of both. In terms of childhood, I think about the how the broader social beliefs influence how we raise children and how these have changed over time. The term education, has expanded to include the different kinds of educational institutions that exist and existed other than public and private schools such as separate schools, residential schools, and alternate schools.
