My university experience has been interesting to put in plainly. Obviously now we’re considered adults, and no longer youths, therefore teachers except you to do everyone yourself. This is of course fair, but also the other end of the extreme. In university, there are deadlines and learning outcomes that you are expected to meet. A university student does not get to guide their own learning and pick what their courses are made of. In this context, university is rather frustrating. Because degrees have requirements, it can be hard to feel as if you can completely focus on what you specifically want to learn about. For example, in my history major, I have to take courses in all geographic areas even though I may not have an interest in those areas. So why, I ask myself, are we trying to push curriculum to be more on the progressive side of things when students will eventually have to experience aspects like grading and and degree requirements?
